At the beginning of March, Kait and I moved into our new home in Maplewood, New Jersey. Soon after, the world stopped. As everything got worse outside our doorstep, I took the time that I was suddenly afforded to build the recording studio I've always wanted in my empty attic. It was a blank canvas, and for the first time in nearly a decade of living in small apartments, I lived with my drum set and all my recording gear. I needed a project during this quarantine to help me feel sane, creative, and de-stress. I decided to cover a bunch of Nick Lowe songs as the focus, thinking I could maybe raise some money for a cause during the pandemic, and giving me an opportunity to try out the space, see what sounded good, and experiment. The way it sounds are a reflection of that experimentation. Between meetings, playing with the dog, and unpacking boxes, I would go upstairs, play with mic techniques, record a guitar part or two, and figure out how to play this song or that. I did that on and off for three months, and eventually had enough songs for this EP. Originally I had planned to use this as an opportunity to raise money for a COVID or medial related charity, but we were recently reminded once again about the injustices our friends and neighbors of color face in daily life. Any money raised from this EP, or any other albums on this page will go to Black Lives Matter (blacklivesmatter.com/about/). Thank you!
